I visited Shcherbynivka in the Cherkasy region. Let me remind you that here we are adding another large room and a kitchen to our supported living home. This will allow us to accommodate two more people with disabilities.
Currently, Maxim and Sashko live here in fairly comfortable conditions. They help, within their abilities, both with construction and with taking care of the house and yard. They live the life of ordinary people but with support for shopping and preparing meals. This life and the living conditions are very different — in a positive way — from life in state-run psycho-neurological institutions in Ukraine.
We are grateful to everyone who supports Maxim and Sashko with donations and parcels, and also allows us to expand. At present, for further development, we need help with:
- purchasing a generator (up to 20,000 UAH), as the existing charging station is no longer sufficient during long outages;
- installing two plastic windows and doors in the new extension;
- paying for roofing and interior work in the extension, purchasing building materials and furniture;
- we would like to improve the boys' leisure and take them to Kyiv and Cherkasy for excursions; any support is appreciated.
Also, we are currently selecting the next 2 residents of the home. We plan to complete the extension by summer. These will likely be young people with mental or other disabilities, graduates of foster families or residential care, or young men from ordinary families.
Unfortunately, our social support capacity is limited, so we cannot yet handle severe cases requiring constant care. Moreover, it is very important that new residents are compatible with current ones. Therefore, the selection process is quite complex. But we welcome your suggestions, either personally or via messengers +380665133435.
