Solar panels for psychiatric boarding schools

April 30, 2024, 21:45 99 Author: Albert Pavlov helpus.org.ua We ask you to support the project, which will reduce the costs of boarding schools for electricity and help the energy system of Ukraine

As is well known, life in psychiatric and neurological boarding schools (PNI) in Ukraine is far from easy. There is a shortage of staff, living space, medication, leisure activities, and more. The situation has become even more challenging during the war, with dozens of institutions in the eastern part of the country being destroyed and many others evacuated to the west. Improving the lives of people in PNIs requires funds.

The "Helpus" Foundation is launching a program to install solar power stations in PNIs. Firstly, this will allow savings on electricity costs. A 30 kW solar power station will enable an institution to save approximately $4,800 annually. These funds will be directed toward improving living conditions for residents, providing entertainment, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Additionally, this program is highly relevant for Ukraine, given the ongoing Russian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure and the destruction of thermal power plants.

An equally important outcome is that each solar station will generate clean energy, reducing carbon emissions and helping preserve life on the planet.

We plan to install the first solar station at one of the institutions in the Chernivtsi region. This is one of the safest areas in Ukraine, with plenty of sunny days.

The estimated cost of a 30 kW solar power station is $15,000.

The payback period for this investment is approximately 3.5 years, and if electricity prices rise (which is inevitable), the payback will be even faster.

Therefore, we ask companies, organizations, charitable foundations, and private donors from Ukraine and around the world to support this project, improve the lives of people with disabilities, and help Ukraine's energy system.

We also request journalists and bloggers to help spread the word.
