A person with a disability, who is also an orphan, in Ukraine is almost doomed to live in psycho-neurological institutions all his life. First, children's, and then - in psycho-neurological institutions (PNI). In words, civil servants talk a lot about the need for reforms, but in reality the projects of supported living and are small group homes are created only by volunteers and charitable organizations.
A wonderful house, for example, was created by volunteers in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. "Oselya Viry, Nadii and Liyubovi" is now a home for three people with disabilities . In the future, it will be able to accommodate up to 7 people. The house was built with charitable funds. The regional government initially agreed to finance this project. And there was a reason for this - less funds were allocated than for the maintenance of these same people in the psycho-neurological institution (PNI).
But in the last two years, for some reason, even these funds have been fought by volunteers in the courts. And it is not always possible to get anything at all. Moreover, officials are much more active in courts than constructively. These are just some pests who, even after the court decision in favor of "Osela", file an appeal and spend a lot of time and public funds to fight against the public initiative.
While the project leader Vasyl Futerko is fighting this fiendishness in the courts, I urge you to support the project as much as possible. Monthly donations are especially important. All funds go towards food, utility costs and minimum pay for staff who support the residents of the Home. Also, there are plans to make an extension to accommodate four more people. Help the residents of "Oseli" Yana, Ulyana and Igor to live at home, not in a boarding school!
