I continue the chronicle of the struggle for a decent life for special people. People sentenced without a trial to lifelong stay in psycho-neurological boarding schools (PNI).
For me personally, the civility of society is defined in relation to such people, as well as to orphans, the seriously ill and the elderly. In Germany, I saw, that the living conditions of people with disabilities are no worse (and sometimes better) than those of ordinary Germans.
In our country, I constantly see people with mental disabilities locked up in "closed" institutions - in PNI, isolated from the surrounding world. The lives of these people are spent in stuffy, overcrowded rooms with minimal personal space. These people live according to a strict routine, like in a prison. Most often without being able to work (even if they are able to). Without having the right to a private life and access to normal medicine. Without the possibility to protect their rights, which are violated at every step.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, we started the creation of assisted living facilities in which people with disabilities could finally feel like people. But Russian aggression interrupted these projects, the houses remained under occupation. Fortunately, the residents of the houses - Maksym, Zhenya and Sashko, were fortunately able to escape from the occupation
Now we continue what we started, already in Cherkasy. One of the houses of supported accommodation in the village of Shcherbynivka is designed for 3 people, and after the completion of the extension, it will be able to accommodate up to 5 people. It is a small but cozy house. One room can accommodate from 1 to 2 people. In it, 2 out of 3 rooms are already completely ready, and in principle, the renovation is coming to an end.
The other day, my ward Sashko and I spent the night there and tested this house (see photo). If Sasha likes it, maybe he will continue to live there. After all, there is a large plot of land next to the house, in addition, the village has a very active community connected with the Christian Church. There are several other social projects to help immigrants, foster families and the elderly. Sashko is very active, hardworking and used to rural life, and he needs space for activities.
Now we are looking for 2-3 more guys who would like and be able to live in a house in Shcherbynivka. For now, we can only accept able-bodied guys who have good self-care skills and are free of anti-social behavior. Preferably - the ability to work, if possible growing products for yourself on the homestead.
In Shcherbynivka, we are also renovating the house of the family of Vitaliy and Natalia Bardysh, who also once left the PNI. Vitaly and Natalia have a 3-year-old daughter. We want to renovate the house, create a safe space for adults and children, and to the best of our ability, support the family's adaptation to normal life.
Currently, the primary concern is to complete the construction of both facilities. The main expenses are the payment of construction works (laying tiles, installing plasterboard, pouring the floor, etc.).
We will be grateful for your support, in the form of building materials (cement, gas block, metal tile, plasterboard, tiles, paint, etc.), in the form of volunteering, fundraising and performance of works, or in the form of donations:
Informational support and your active reposts are also very important!
Thank you all for your support!
